Perth is a very wealthy city thanks to the mining industry in Western Australia. We only had a brief visit to the city walking round the CBD the Elizabeth Quay area and the King's Park and Botanic Garden from where we had magnificent views back over the city and harbour area.
The stunningly designed Swan Bell Tower houses 12 ancient bells from St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square. In 1984 the bells were to be replaced and it was agreed to donate them to the State of Western Australia as part of the 1988 Australian bicentenary celebrations. The bells had been rung to celebrate national events - including the return of Captain Cook in 1771 - so there is a tenuous Australian link to them. Whatever, there are fabulous views from the tower and you also get to hear a peel of bells.
