Bratislava & Vienna Xmas 2008

The family – and Russell – spent a very enjoyable Xmas at Karen’s in the centre of Bratislava. As you can see, it’s certainly chilly there in late December.

St Stephen’s Cathedral

The Old Town Hall Museum. Strolling round the old parts of Bratislava is always a good way to work off the effects of a large meal.

The 18th century Primate’s House. Very gaudy in shocking pink.

The President’s Palace is a 10 minute walk from Karen’s apartment. A very formal 18th century Baroque building.

I like the ornate gates.

In the nearby Palace gardens, the “Usual Suspects” pose. You may just notice the Euro logo emblazoned on the building behind me in this photo. Unfortunately for my wallet, Slovakia joining the Euro-zone means it is no longer the cheap place to visit that it used to be.

The Slavin Monument erected in 1960 to commemorate the fallen Russian soldiers liberating the city in WWII. On a clear sunny day there are tremendous views from here, but unfortunately not on the day we went. Maybe next time?
