Bavaria Photos:-

From Fussen we decided to drive the slightly longer route to Linderhof, staying within Germany, rather than the most direct route which crosses into and out of Austria. Being (still) in the EU, Ann & I would have had no problems, but Norah being Australian was concerned in case we would experience any border delays.

Visiting all the main castles you need a timed ticket. However in this case we had not bought any tickets, but there were no problems as we were allocated a guided tour slot within minutes of arriving. Unfortunately no photography was allowed inside any of the castles we visited - so only external shots on these pages.

Linderhof Castle was the only significant building project that Ludwig II saw completed in 1877. Created after Ludwig visited Versailles and as a tribute to the Absolute Monarchy of the Bourbons.

Inside this small castle only a few rooms are open to visitors, but they are all sumptuously decorated in the 18th century French rococo style.

In the extensive gardens were various follies, such as the Moorish Kiosk and the Moroccan House.
