In May 2014 we had a great holiday touring round Jordan. Starting in the capital Amman, we visited the Roman remains of the city of Jerash, as well as the Biblical sites of Mount Nebo and Madaba. Then after the imposing crusader castles of Kerak & Shobak, the highlight of the tour was Petra. Petra is spectacular. Two and a bit days was not enough time there! After Petra we went Camping in the Wadi Rum, which was different to what we were expecting as we had unseasonal thunderstorms. However the jeeps getting stuck in the flash floods was an added bit of fun! Exploring the Red Sea's coral reef at Aqaba and floating on the Dead Sea rounded off a short, varied and very enjoyable holiday.
We went on a group holiday with Explore! and would certainly recommend them. Also I must thank our guide Mo whose enthusiasm and humour were tremendous, making the holiday even more fun.
We found all the Jordanians we met genuinely very friendly. Compared to the Souqs in Cairo or Marrakesh, shopping in Jordan was a very enjoyable and laid-back affair.
Just one example:- when I was wandering round the town of Karak on my own, a traffic policeman at a junction stopped me. I immediately thought "Oh dear I don't have my passport with me!" But no, he was keen to ensure that I was enjoying myself on holiday and was there anything he could do for me? We had a very friendly chat & in the end I had to refuse the offer of a tea as I had to get back to my group.
