Suffolk 2012

Our friend Norah was visiting from Australia & so we decide to explore parts of Suffolk together. Unfortunately the weather in October wasn’t at its best. Being in Constable country we obviously had to trek to Flatford Mill avoiding some curious cows on the way. Of the other places we visited, Lavenham was by far the most photogenic.

Lavenham

Though we thought that the town was notorious for medieval witch burnings – apparently not so (or not any different from any other rural village). The reputation is solely down to the memorable Vincent Price Witchfinder General film of 1968! In medieval times it was one of the wealthiest villages in England. However when trade moved to Colchester, Lavenham saw a slump in its fortunes and it became a bit of a backwater – albeit a very scenic one.
