Travelling

The Skoura area is very tranquil, suitable for chilling-out or exploring the Atlas mountains.

Both the photo on the left & the one above were taken from terrace of the Riad we stayed in.

You can just see the Wadi in the background in the phot on the right.

Kasbah Amerdihl

There are lots of old Kasbahs in the area. Kasbah Amerdihl,  a short walk from our Riad, is worth a visit. It is 17th century and still occupied by the owners. The back of the 50 Dirham note contains an image of this Kasbah. It was fun clambering round the place.

I was intrigued by the old wooden lock. The guard was pleased to demonstrate how it worked. I bought a smaller version in our visit to Ait Ben Haddou which is now on the window sill in our dinning room.

Trek in the Atlas Mountains

We had an exhilarating climb up a steep ridge in the High Atlas, near Toundout, with stunning views from the top. A you can see, the Berber villages / ksars were dotted along the long valley floor.

More Kasbahs later. Apparently the nearby Ait Ben Haddou is more frequently used by Hollywood  as a film set as it is easier for the film crews to reach it. However some of these out-of-the-way ksars and kasbahs we passed in our trek are just as stunning.
