Italy 2004 – Vatican City

Castel San Angelo. Not strictly in the Vatican City – but in a sense guarding it. With all the pavement vendors, it is similar to Charles Bridge in Prague. Great views from here.

Piazza San Petro

Filarete’s Door. One of the impressive entrances into St Peter’s.

The Dome. It is difficult to get an idea of the scale from this photo. The sense of space is enormous.
The Sistine Chapel ceiling. You weren’t supposed to take photos here, but in the massive crowd the guards couldn’t stop me.

Raphael’s Stanza. This is his School of Athens. The Frescos are large, and the rooms are really too small to try and stand back and appreciate the works.
Piazza Colonna. Our last night in Rome, after another great meal.
