Barcelona 2002

We had a long weekend in November in Barcelona. The weather was gorgeous. It was so mild, we could eat outside in the evenings.

Barcelona City

Gaudi Architecture

Port Vell is the marina area of the city

Placa Reial – We ate a couple of times at a restaurant in this square. Locals not just tourists went there – so it was good.

There is a wealth of history associated with Barcelona. However Barcelona doesn’t just rely on its history for its charms.

This square on the right is in the Gothic Quarter behind the Cathedral. Below, one of many quaint streets & alleyways.

There are lots of Nautical associations throughout the city. This is a distinctly odd street sculpture.

The market was a good venue for a quick bite to eat.

A relic of the 1929 International Exhibition, the Poble Espanyol a great place to shop among all the craft shops.

In one of them Ann was having difficulty trying to communicate with the shopkeeper. However they got on better when Ann started speaking in French, rather than Spanish to the native Catalan.

Our hotel was off the busy La Rambla with this fountain nearby.

We loved Barcelona – but then most people do. A perfect destination for a short break away.
