The Greece Photos:-

All visitors were given leaflets outside the Acropolis stating the Greek case for returning the Elgin Marbles from the British Museum, back to Athens. Of course when you visit the BM in London, you can also get a leaflet explaining why they must remain in London.

This view is of the West facade of the Parthenon.

A view of the East facade of the Parthenon, showing the reconstruction work going on in its centre.

A close up of the East facade. Inside the Parthenon it looked like a shoddy building site.

The East facade (again!)

View from the Propylia showing the Olive tree given by Athena to the city in the competition with Poseidon, to win its favour. She "won", hence the city is called Athens & not Poseida!

You are not supposed to pick up anything from the ground on the Acropolis & guards will blow their whistles if they see you. So of course, I had to lace up my shoelaces & have ended up with a leaf from this Olive tree, as a memento.

This photo was taken when we first visited Greece, 25 years earlier. Hardly anything has changed - except Ann's hair is a bit shorter now.
