Another early start, this time for the 04:30 departure from the Ayers Rock Resort for the 4 hour drive to Kings Canyon. We start the ascent up Heart Attack Hill (so named due to its steepness) for the 6 Km Rim Walk. The early start was so that we could be on the walk by 08:30 as they closed the trail half an hour later as it would become too hot for people to safely complete it otherwise. We finished the walk in just over 3 hours when the temperature was already 34 degrees Celsius and rising.

There are breath taking views from the rim, both into the canyon itself as well as across the Red Centre of the Northern Territory.

Our guide was insistent that we keep a minimum of 2 metres away from the treacherous edges as they are very unstable. The previous year a tourist plunged to her death after trying to get a photo & a few weeks after we returned from our holiday another tragedy happened at this Canyon. To sit on the edge when the rock may suddenly peel away is very foolhardy as I noticed on the other side of the rim (enlargement below)

The Garden of Eden at the bottom of the Canyon was very cool and peaceful.
