The Temple of Horus at Edfu is one of the best preserved in Egypt, being built later than most others, in the Ptolemaic period (i.e. after Alexander the Great, 323 BC)

The largest Pylon of any temple. It is certainly very impressive now that they have cleared the area in front of it.

I am not sure of the significance of this part of the decoration on the Pylon, but it looked distinctly odd. I wonder if any of the women's hats in Ascot have been inspired by any of these?

Jo & Ann by the Horus statue with (reputedly) Cleopatra's son, Caesarion

(i.e. "Little Caesar") between its feet. Didn't do Caesarion a lot of good; no sooner had Cleopatra committed suicide than Octavian executed Caesarion saying "Two Caesars is one too many" & the once mighty Egypt became a province of Imperial Rome.

Being shielded from the sun, the undersides of entrances retain their colours better than the walls

I couldn't resist taking this photo and the next few below. The framing of the columns in the early evening light is just so special.
