Tartu

Estonia’s second city with a large population of university students. When we went in 2024 it was the year’s European Capital of Culture. Not sure what that designation means – but its a good marketing angle for its tourism sector.
A small city with the Town Hall Square being the central hub for surrounding areas of interest.
The arched footbridge bridge over the river Emajogi in the photo below holds a significance for local students who consider it a rite of passage to walk across its high arch, especially at night. Needless to say after many accidents the authorities clamped down on the practice.
