Gardens By The Bay

Recently built on over 100 hectares of reclaimed land the Gardens By The Bay are the most spectacular public gardens we have ever visited. I am not surprised that this is Singapore’s most visited attraction. Indeed it is one of the most popular attractions in Asia.

I am standing on the Dragonfly Bridge.

Civic District

The gardens are split into several sections. The most iconic one has 18 Supertrees. Each are between 25 and 50 metres high and are effectively vertical gardens. There is a high level walkway between a couple of these trees giving stunning views over the gardens and parts of Singapore.

There is even a restaurant on top one of these Supertrees.

At night there is a stunning psychedelic sound & light show called The Garden Rhapsody. Not to be missed.

The Chinese Heritage Garden. The Heritage Gardens are four large garden complexes, one each for the three main ethnic groups (Malay, Chinese and Indian) and one representing Singapore’s Colonial past.

The Chinese Garden has a sculpture of an ideal human cut-out representing the Chinese leaving home to venture out to foreign lands.

No, it is not a baby on the hedge behind me, but Marc Quinn’s 10 metre long sculpture, Planet, of his baby son floating above a meadow.

The Flower Dome

The Flower Dome is the world’s largest glass greenhouse. You can see the floral tributes to the Chinese Year of the Goat in the photo on the left.

The Flower Dome Walkway

The Cloud Forest Dome houses a 35 metre waterfall with walkways spiralling round parts of it.
