Vietnam's first national university built in the 11th century to train mandarins. This is a temple dedicated to Confucius with five courtyards leading to the main building complex.
There are 82 monumental stelae each on the back of a tortoise to commemorate the first graduates.
While we were walking round we were pounced upon by a couple of different groups of young school kids wanting to practice their English using the pretext of completing a questionnaire. There was always a school mistress nearby keeping an eye out for them, even occasionally taking photos of us. All very charming.
