Mount Nebo & Madaba

Mount Nebo is where legend has it that Moses had his view of the Promised Land before dying.

On a clear day from here you are supposed to be able to see the West Bank across the Jordan River (just) & the cities of Jericho & Jerusalem (not this day – too much air pollution!)

View of the “Promised Land”

The Brazen Serpent Monument – This large dominating sculpture overlooks a stunning view of the Jordan Valley.

Round Stone Doors in ancient times were used to seal tombs. Mo showing us how.

A unique early Byzantine mosaic of the Holy Land and beyond is housed on the floor of St George’s Church in Madaba.

In this diagram, the Dead Sea is the upper horizontal band being fed by the River Jordan from the left. The smaller image below (left of centre in the photo) is a representation of the walled city of Jerusalem.

Constructed in the 6th century it is a valuable historical document of the area.
