Three Gorges Dam
The Dam is enormous. When we went, they were building the first half, up to the island in the middle of the Yangtze. As the photo shows, we could hardly see the other end (back to the air pollution problems!).
There was little regard to Health & Safety. A couple of steps back and you can see how far Ann or I would have fallen down: no such thing as safety barriers. I would hate to have been responsible for bringing any little children here. Even though Ann wasn’t feeling great on the day, the sight was enough to raise a smile.
This 5-stage ship lock is about a mile long and will be able to take large ocean-going ships through it.
