Botswana Photos:-

Driving through Moremi early in the morning we unexpectedly came across these two leopards with their kill. Our guide reckoned that the pair of leopards had got the impala overnight.

Though there were two leopards at the scene, apparently leopards hunt their prey alone. It is likely that the leopard is sharing the kill with its mate.

Our guide informed us that the kill would have been relatively quick with the leopard throttling the impala (my larger photo - not on this website shows the marks on the impala's neck). After dragging the body to this hiding place the leopards would have immediately ate the kidney and liver but burried the intestines. They do this because intestines are very smelly and they do not want to attract other predators, such as wild dogs, to be attracted by the odour.

The leopards appeared very docile as they were no doubt bloated after gorging themselves.
