Wildlife

Though the busiest of the National Parks that we visited, we did see a lot of wildlife including the elusive Squirrel monkeys.

On the drive to Manuel Antonio NP, we had a brief stop at a bridge over the Tarcoles river to see a bask of American crocodiles. Hideous creatures, but somehow fascinating as well, best not to get too close.

After we trekked through the park we finished with a picnic and welcoming swim in a beautifully warm beach. The only trouble was that first of all the racoons were a problem. They were determined to share the picnic and were not easily dissuaded. I ended up accidentally hitting one in the process of trying to shoo it away. Next the capuchin monkeys tried to steal my lunch. Eventually I finished and wrapped up the remains in a bag which I put in my rucksack, thinking I would not be disturbed again. A couple of minutes later I turned round to see a large iguana on my rucksack trying to claw its way in to get to the remains of my lunch. Obviously all these creatures are too accustomed to being among us humans.
