Wildlife

Most game co-exist very well. There are oryx, eland, wildebeest and a giraffe in this photo.
The Namibian Elephants are specially adapted to the dry desert climate, having relatively broader feet.

Zebra are obviously particularly photogenic. I think these are Hartmann zebra.

Giraffes – very stately

It is a tremendous effort for a Giraffe to drink. It is very vulnerable when drinking as it takes so long to get into a drinking position, by spreading its forelegs & slowly lowering its head. At the waterhole in Etosha we saw three lionesses ambush a giraffe, as it started drinking. It only just managed to escape. Very dramatic!

Springbok

All these antelope are particularly shy creatures.
Impala

Kudu

Hartebeest

Oryx

Wildebeest

Visiting in the dry season meant that the few waterholes remaining in Etosha were well patronised by all the animals in the area which made game viewing very easy.

We visited the Cape Cross Seal reserve on the Atlantic Coast. This colony numbers about 200,000. They are very noisy & smelly and are prone to chase you if you get too near.

Cute

Just posing for photos?

Walvis Bay – Pelicans and Flamingos were plentiful here.

The night Safari was fun, but I doubt the Chameleon approved much of being handled.

Ostriches

The Hobatere Lodge had its own little waterhole yards from where Ann had a swim, but we didn’t fancy sharing it with the warthogs!.

The armour-plated cockroaches were very large – about 3″ long
