Sand Dunes

The sand dunes in Sossusvlei are vast. They are the highest in the world. The dots on the top of this sand dune are people walking along the ridge.

Sand Dunes

Nothing for it but to climb one. Some are over 300 metres high so we chose a small one to trek up. It was very taxing walking up the dunes, two steps up, slide down one, etc. & if you don’t persevere, then you find yourself sliding down anyway.

The Dead Vlei on the far right is a petrified forest over 500 years old.

We also tried our luck at Sandboarding. it was tremendous fun on some really high sand dunes. Ann showing her style!

Its a long way down …….at up to 80Km/hr………. Not for the feint-hearted!

…but it is also a long slow climb back up after each run.

The Tandem was fun ……..

……for the on-lookers! Luckily we were both unscathed

It was all well worth it. The views were tremendous from the top.
