Breathtaking vista from Kamanjab

There is a significant amount of Rock Art to be found at Twyfelfontein. The rock engravings are up to 6,000 years old. It’s amazing that they lasted so well.

When we visited Twyfelfontein it was one of the hotter days on our trip 35C – even though it was Autumn.

Butter Trees. They looked dead to me, but are in fact perfectly healthy.
Ann standing next to a Candle Tree which are quite rare.

The Welwitschia mirabilis must be the most enigmatic plant in Africa, only found in certain parts of Namibia. It is in effect a tree with its trunk underground and only ever having two leaves above ground. Some specimens have been dated to over a thousand years old.

Termite mounds were common. I was surprised to learn that the vast nests are entirely underground and that the mounds are made up from the excavated earth.
