A couple of hours coach ride from HCMC takes us to My Tho on a southern branch of the Mekong, a wide murky river in the Mekong Delta. We take a couple of smelly diesel-powered boats to some of the islands observing the local handicrafts. In particular what the locals do with coconuts was interesting - not just eating the flesh & drinking the milk, but making toffee-like sweets & pancakes from them.
We then go on a leisurely punt on small canoes along a narrow tributary of the Mekong before returning to My Tho, where we have a superb lunch in a thatched hut compound.
