Brasov

Brasov was the biggest of the Transylvanian cities that we visited. At the southern end of the Carpathians, the city name dominates – Hollywood style – from Mount Tampa. There is a cable car up to the top with great views of the city, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to take it. We stayed in a hotel on the main square, Piata Sfatului. A very elegant square, with the old Town Hall in the centre. Yet another marathon was taking place the weekend we were there.
The main building of note is the large Black Church, so called either because it was blackened in a major fire of 1689 or due to general pollution in more recent times.
