Blue Mountains
Govetts Leap – view of Grosse Valley

We stayed a couple of nights in Katoomba to explore the Blue Mountains, so called due to the bluish haze given off by the Eucalyptus trees. The views were really breath taking, so much lush vegetation.

Scenic World
We spent an enjoyable day at the Scenic World complex. First off was a trip down the world’s steepest passenger railway down to the Jamison Valley floor for a long boardwalk exploration of the temperate forest undergrowth, weaving through some enormous eucalyptus trees. The highlight of which was seeing a Lyre Bird performing a courtship dance.
Later we took the highest cable car in Australia across the Jamison Valley. For those who suffer from vertigo, best to avoid looking straight down through the glass floor of the cable car!

A Lyre Bird courting dance
We were lucky to video a Lyre Bird’s very elaborate courting dance – well worth watching if you haven’t seen it before.
