Soroa

Another pleasant Cuban town, again with a fair down the main street. “Famous” for its botanical gardens, Orquideario.

The Orquideario is one of the largest collections of orchids in the world. Again it made for a very relaxing visit. However, once more, except for a few other tourist groups, it was almost deserted.

The “Cave of the Indians”, (i.e. the indigenous population before Columbus, et al wiped them out) is the largest cave system in Latin America. Burial remains of the early Indians were found here, hence the name of this cave system.

There were various pictograms on the walls, similar to the Cueva Ambrosio we explored in Varadero.

Luckily we only walked a little way in before taking a boat ride on the underground San Vicente river out of it.

Manantiales Waterfall. Not very spectacular, due to the recent lack of rain. I am bottom right in this photo.

A walk up the adjoining hill gave superb views of the surrounding Sierra de Rosario mountains and our hotel complex at the bottom of the valley (just to the right of Ann in the photo on the left).

An enterprising Cuban was selling locally made necklaces at the top.
