I wondered what this was doing in the port of Gruz. The plaque on the side of this vessel reads: “The First Battleship of the Croatian Navy – task force of armed ships, Dubrovnik, the symbol and pride of resistance against Serbo-Montenegrin aggression on our town.” Worthy sentiment- Yes – but Battleship??

There were several of these keep-fit parks in the area. I think they are a splendid idea! A novelty for me as I hadn’t encountered any back home at the time.

There was a delightful concert of folk music outside St Blaise Church when we paid an evening visit to the city. I like the patriotic lighting.

On visiting this church in the centre of Old Dubrovnik, I assumed this was a Greek or Russian Orthodox church and was amazed to find out that it was Serbian. My guide book says that it only has a small congregation. I am surprised it has any at all considering the recent “Homelands” war.

The Lijerica is a traditional 3-stringed instrument associated with local folk dances. The photo on the right was taken by the large Onofrian Fountain; the one below at Ston. Ann couldn’t stand the screeching music.
