Red Lizard Train

When we were at Tozeur, we embarked on Red Lizard train to Seldja, passing through various gorges. The train consists of the 19th century Bey’s carriages. (The Bey was the country’s Ottoman ruler, before the French took over.) Though tatty, it made a pleasant journey through a bleak part of Tunisia.

Travelling

First class was something in those days!

There were various photo-opportunity stops, including one at the local Phosphate works. Phosphates are a big thing in Tunisia, as our guide was keen to explain (often…..!).
