Mission Beach is a very small laid-back resort which made a good overnight stop on the way to Magnetic Island.
We stayed at an Eco-friendly B&B where the owners are into animal welfare, looking after orphaned wallabies among other animals. So breakfast was different with pythons & chickens nearby and a hungry parrot overhead eyeing our food. We even got to cuddle some baby wallabies. However this was all put to shade by the sudden appearance of a large cassowary. Cassowaries are an endangered species, rarely seen and are large birds related to ostriches and emus. They have a dagger-like claw, 5 inches long, so best to give them a wide berth. We were really pleased to come up so close to one, but kept a wary distance from it.
