Plaza de Armas

The Plaza de las Armas was designed to serve as the original main square for the military and government in Havana. The square in Old Havana is surrounded by historic buildings including Castillo de la Real Fuerza, El Templete, the Federal Supreme Court, and the Senate building
The small fake Classical folly in the centre of this photo, El Templete stands on the spot where according to Cuban legend, the city was founded in 1519.
Also bookshops & book stalls are aplenty here.

Cespedes was a wealthy Cuban landowner who freed his slaves and made the declaration of Cuban independence in 1868 which started the Ten Years’ War for independence from Spain.

Palacio de los Capitanes Generales

This 18th Century Cuban Baroque palace was the Governor’s palace. Now it houses the City Museum. Beware of all the security guards who want tips for explaining what is in each of the rooms you visit (even if you don’t want them to!).
